Applied Mechanical Design AMD2

One line note that is displayed under the theory/pratice chart.

  • The Applied Mechanical Design graduate certificate is designed for students to build on the knowledge and skills gained from their previous engineering backgrounds.
  • This program will provide students with the skills required for the workplace in the mechanical engineering design and manufacturing sectors that will allow them to immediately add value as a member of a team.
  • Students will learn through the classroom, labs, and hands-on experiential learning. An applied capstone project will provide students with the opportunity to conceive, design, implement and manage real-world solutions using skills in CAD, industrial communications, project management, and documentation.
  • The Applied Mechanical Design program has been tailored to provide students with a very strong focus on the business and manufacturing perspectives of engineering decisions. Students will learn how to make and justify design decisions based upon consideration of customer requirements, functionality, reliability, quality, manufacturability, serviceability, and safety to ultimately demonstrate that all design criteria are met and that their design solutions add real, tangible value to the customer.

Useful background experience for this program would be

Students require at least two (2) years of relevant/applicable industry work experience if they wish to enter the Applied Mechanical Design program directly. Alternatively, students can be accepted into the Applied Mechanical Design program after first completing another Fanshawe graduate certificate program. Please see the website for details.

What kind of work could I do when I graduate?

This program gives students intensive training in mechanical engineering (product) design coupled with a strong emphasis on accompanying quality systems. The program has been created to complement, but more importantly, they will learn how and why to apply the theoretical skills that they have obtained in their previous mechanical engineering studies at the university level. Graduates would be well-positioned to pursue careers in mechanical (product) design, quality, and manufacturing roles.
