Aircraft Structural Repair Technician ASR

A One-Year Ontario College Certificate Program

  • 9 courses in the first semester
  • .5 hours of study/assignments required for each hour in class
  • 30 hours of class (45 hour/week commitment)
  • It is expected that you will participate in out of class activities.

What kind of work could I do when I graduate?

Graduates of the program go on to work in the aircraft maintenance industry on both large and small aircraft. Due to our training in advanced composites, students also work in the field of advanced composites which includes but is not limited to, marine, automotive, and wind-powered turbines.

Graduates find employment:

Air carriers, aircraft repair and overhaul companies, flight training schools, aeronautical product manufacturers, or component shops.

Typical working conditions for this kind of work:

  • Work is primarily indoors in hangars or shops but may be required to work outdoors on airport ramps
  • May require the use of safety equipment or clothing
  • May work in noisy environments, in uncomfortable positions or confined spaces, or at heights
  • May work in remote locations for extended periods
  • May be required to lift, reach and climb

Tasks a graduate may do in the workplace

  • Fabrication and repair of aluminum alloy structures.
  • Test, fabricate and repair advanced composites including carbon fiber and fiberglass.
  • Complete logbook entries

  • This program provides 10 months of Approved Basic Training credit towards the 36 months of experience required to obtain a Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license in the “S” Category provided the student achieves at least: 95% attendance over the two semesters; 70% in the theory section of every course in the program; and 70% in the practical section of every course in the program
